Pub Night April 21st, 2006

For the second year in a row, an informal pub night was held at P.J. O'Brien. This time it had the added attraction of an Irish whiskey tasting, kindly arranged by Martha Harrison (1978) in conjunction with Scott Brockington, the manager at P.J. O'Brien's. The attendance of almost 40 people was the largest informal gathering to date. Again we had the use of the private bar upstairs with the same very accommodating barman, Blake. It was also good to see Pat and Anne Quinn (the owners) drop by and provide an update on the Leaf's game that night.

Martha Harrison laid on four brands of Cooley's, namely, Lockes Blend, Locke's Byr Single Malt, The Tyrconnell Single Malt and Connemara Peated Single Malt. She explained the intriguing history behind Cooley's and each whiskey, as well as providing some tasting notes and door prizes. The evening was as informative as it was enjoyable and we thank Martha for her contribution. If anyone would like more information they can look up the products on the Cooley website at www.cooleywhiskey.com and also on the LCBO website.

The following is a list of known attendees (and apologies for anyone omitted) Hilary and Roger Selby; Bill and Rosemary Lauriston, John and Cath Cary, John & Suzanne Payne and friend Paula Goepfert, Pat and Gillian Kearney, Daisy White (née Fleming), Bruce Buttimore, Bill and Anne McConnell, Kevin Harraher, Andy O'Breslin and Elsie Morrin, Martha Harrison, Richard O'Connor, Jim and Isobel Lyle, John Symons, Peter and Patricia Hearn, Rosemary Morton, Mervyn and Gina Jackson, Heather Weir, Ray Wiley, Trevor Williams, Don and Adeline Griffin, Carol Morrison, Steven and Moira Black, George Lewis and Hilary Whyte.
